Meet Mary helen

Mary Helen is a Memphis native, musical theatre performer, and educator with a deep commitment to storytelling, technique, and arts education. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Performance, Communication, and Education from Belmont University and completed her Master’s in Education and Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Memphis in 2022.

As part of her undergraduate studies, Mary Helen spent six months interning with Telsey and Company Casting in New York City, where she gained valuable insight into the professional audition and casting process. She has been performing throughout the Mid South since the age of six and brings that lifelong performance experience into her teaching, with a special passion for children’s and youth theatre.

Mary Helen has taught Senior Musical Theatre Conservatories and Educational Performance Summer Camps with Germantown Community Theatre and DeSoto Family Theatre, instructed the Literacy to Life program with New Day Children’s Theatre, and served as a Teaching Artist with Sunfish Performing Arts. Her background also includes arts administration, having worked as the Office Manager for DeSoto Family Theatre. She currently serves as a Theatre Instructor at Hutchison School, where she continues to mentor young performers both onstage and in the classroom.

During her time at Belmont University, Mary Helen was a member of the Education, Communication, and Theatre honor societies and served as the Marketing and Merchandise Representative for Alpha Sigma Tau. She was named the 2015 Mid South Fair Youth Talent Grand Award Winner and is a multiple time Ostrander Award and Allie Award nominee.

Mary Helen is passionate about creating inclusive, encouraging spaces where performers of all ages can grow in confidence, skill, and creativity. She believes in nurturing both strong technique and a genuine love for storytelling, helping students find their voice onstage and beyond.
